What do I
remember? |
| |
In Norfolk
we were playing "Mighty Mouse." A little blonde girl played the heroine.
All I was allowed to be was her friend. I couldn't even be the villain as
I was a girl. I didn't want to be the heroine. I wanted a boy part; the
only interesting ones. |
| |
The same with
"The Wonderful World of Disney" adventures. The girls were saps. I do remember
making up stories in my head where I was the one with ideas, who fell into
adventures. |
| |
In fourth
grade I was confirmed. We had to choose a saint. Most of the girls chose
Mary, Maria, Regina (all the same) or Theresa (one of the Theresa's; even
though there were different Theresa's to choose, they seemed the same person
to me.) |
| |
I chose a
unique name, Gertrude. No one else chose it. She didn't suffer in silence
or gouge her eyes out. She just helped the poor. But she "did" something.
Also everyone was reprimanded as they laughed when I announced my saint
name. That felt good. Her saint day was near my birthday, I don't remember
which date now. |
